India secured a 2-1 series win over Australia in an anticlimactic finish after the fifth and final T20I was abandoned due to heavy rain and thunderstorms in Gabba.
Sent in to bat, there was anticipation about how India’s top order would handle the Gabba pitch, known for its bounce and carry. With Josh Hazlewood, Australia’s nemesis, absent as he prepared for the Ashes, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill capitalized, scoring 52 runs before play was halted after 4.5 overs.
Abhishek was fortunate to be dropped twice, but Gill was in excellent form, striking 29 off 16 balls.
The series concluded much like it began, with rain disrupting play — the opening T20I in Canberra was also washed out. Australia dominated the second game in front of 82,000 fans at the MCG, largely due to a fiery Hazlewood. However, India ultimately clinched the series, with their spinners taking control on the slower pitches in Hobart and the Gold Coast.
